Could the Oil Drain Valve accidentally open while in use?
- No. The Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve’s simple and reliable locking system consisting of 2 distinct actions makes accidental openings virtually impossible during normal driving conditions.
FOR USERS OPERATING VEHICLES IN EXTREME CONDITIONS
- If you operate your vehicle on rough terrain or in conditions where objects may strike the oil drain area (ie. logging, off-road, farming), we recommend installing a lever clip. A lever clip firmly secures the lever in the locked position at all times and prevents accidental openings.
Does the Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve protrude into the oil pan and impede drainage of the engine oil?
- No. Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valves are designed to fit individual drain pan specifications and in almost every situation will not extend into the drain pan. However, replacement or aftermarket oil pans may differ from the original oil pan specification and as a result the valve stem may protrude further into oil pan than normal.

How long will my Engine Oil Drain Valve last?
The Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve is designed to provide a lifetime of trouble free usage. Constructed of corrosion resistant forged brass and stainless steel and rigorously tested during manufacturing, the Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve is designed to outlast your vehicle.
How far does the Engine Oil Drain Valve extend out from the oil pan? Is it safe to use the N-Type for cars and light trucks?
It is safe to install N-Type Fumoto valves on standard clearance cars and light trucks (see note below for low clearance vehicles). The standard Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve for light duty vehicles extends on average 7/8″ from the oil pan, only slightly more than the 1/2″ of most oil drain plugs.
PLEASE NOTE: N-Type valves are NOT RECOMMENDED for vehicles with low clearance.
If using a hose is desired, we recommend using the S-type valve which extends only an additional 3/16″ from the valve body as opposed to 5/8” for the standard N-Type valve.
I tried to open the valve before installing it but can’t move the lever. Is it defective?
No it is not defective. The operating lever is occasionally stiff prior to the first usage. We recommend wearing a glove or using pliers to unseat the lever and move it into the open position. Once opened, the lever mechanism should operate smoothly.
My oil drain pan threads are stripped. Is it possible to install a Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve?
- We recommend re-tapping your current stripped oil pan threads to the next largest thread size and installing the corresponding Fumoto Engine Oil Valve.
For example: If your original thread size is 12mm-1.5, re-tap it to 14mm-1.5 and install a Fumoto F-106 Engine Oil Drain Valve.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless you have proper knowledge and tools, we recommend hiring a mechanic to handle re-tapping new oil pan threads.
What is an adapter?
Fumoto uses the word Adapter to designate both valve extensions and true adapters. A valve extension uses the same size thread and diameter as the valve it’s paired with while an adapter is designed with a different size thread and diameter to allow the valve it is paired with to fit non-standard size drain plug applications.
How do I determine if I need an adapter?
The most reliable way of determining whether you need an adapter is to visually inspect the oil pan area and check for obstructions that might interfere with properly tightening the valve. A recessed oil drain plug location is the most common reason for needing an adapter.
Can the Fumoto Engine Oil valves be used with Motorcycles?
Yes, as long as you match up thread sizes and confirm there is sufficient space and clearance to install it. Our advice is to carefully inspect the drain location before deciding to add a Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve.
